§ Mr. Shersbyasked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he has received an application from the Association of Cost and Executive Accountants to be approved by him for the purpose of auditing company accounts; what has been his response; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. EyreThe Association of Cost and Executive Accountants has sought a change in the law which would permit its members to audit the accounts of small and medium-sized companies. I do not believe that it would be right to require different levels of auditors' qualifications according to the size of the company whose accounts were to be audited. If the association makes an application for recognition under the existing law, as a body whose members are eligible to audit the accounts of any company, I shall of course consider it.
