HC Deb 27 July 1981 vol 9 cc364-5W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what representations he has received about cytopathological services at the Royal Victoria hospital; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

I have received representations from four hon. Members and a consultant thoracic surgeon about the diagnostic cytopathological services at the Royal Victoria hospital. Responsibility for these services lies with the Eastern Health and Social Services Board. I therefore asked the board to reply and I understand that the position has now been explained to the people concerned.

The priority to be given to cytopathological services has to be weighed against the board's other priorities.
