asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people were prescribed some form of birth control as a result of receiving family planning advice through National Health Service family planning clinics and through general practitioners who offer a contraceptive service, respectively, in the years 1978, 1979 and 1980.

The numbers of people attending family planning clinics in England, who, after advice, chose to use some method of birth control including natural family planning methods and sterilisation were 1,457,400 in 1978, 1,416,900 in 1979 and 1,401,100 in 1980.

Similar information is not available for general practitioners who offer a contraceptive service.
