§ Mr. Ernie Rossasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many redundancies in the engineering industry, SIC orders VII, VIII and IX have been declared in Dundee since May 1979; and how many firms have been involved.
§ Mr. Alexander Fletcher[pursuant to his reply, 16 July 1981]: There are no comprehensive statistics of redundancies. I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that between 1 May 1979 and 30 June 1981, 15 instances of redundancy involving 10 or more workers were notified to it as due to occur in the mechanical, instrument and electrical engineering industries—SIC orders VII, VIII and IX—in Dundee, with the loss of 1,651 jobs.
