§ Mr. Alexander FletcherThe Government's policy is to improve the climate for investment in manufacturing industry. Scotland is not, of course, immune to the effects of the world recession. It is, however, encouraging that many firms based in Scotland are maintaining and increasing investment programmes with assistance, where appropriate, from the Government. In addition, several companies have announced their intention to establish manufacturing plants in Scotland in this and coming years.
