§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to ban the sale of confectionery and soft drinks by itinerant vendors within a radius of half a mile of schools.
§ Mr. RaisonLondon borough councils already have powers to control itinerant traders under the London County Council (General Powers) Act 1947. Similar powers are provided by local Acts in several other parts of the country. My right hon. Friend is considering the possiblity of legislation enabling all local authorities to adopt such powers. The decision whether to ban sales in a particular area would be left entirely to the discretion of the local authority concerned.
