HC Deb 21 July 1981 vol 9 c102W
Mr. Snape

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) whether steps have been taken to determine the cost of road damage caused by axle overloading, as proposed in the minor recommendation 30 of the 1978 report of the independent committee of inquiry into road haulage operators' licensing;

(2) whether any survey or other information is available to him on the extent to which lorries or their individual axles are loaded beyond the present maximum legal limits.

Mr. Fowler

The Tranport and Road Research Laboratory is conducting surveys of static axle weights, which will provide information necessary for calculating the cost of road damage caused by axle overloading.
