§ Mr. Leightonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether, pursuant to his answer of 12 May, Official Report, column 601, he is able to give figures for the changes in the numbers of students from poor countries as a result of the introduction of full cost fees.
§ Dr. BoysonIn colleges of further education in England and Wales the total number of overseas students from the "least developed" countries listed by the OECD fell by about 9 per cent. between 1979–80 and 1980–81. The available information for the universities relates solely to new entrants and for undergraduate and postgraduate courses together these fell by 13 per cent. over the same period. Both figures are provisional. The reductions in numbers are not necessarily solely on account of the introduction of full cost fees.
