§ Mr. Nicholas Bakerasked the Lord Privy Seal if he will request the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to allow the Vashchenko and Chmykhalov families and other Christians in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to emigrate to countries where they will be able to practise their religious beliefs.
§ Sir Ian GilmourSince the Vashchenko and Chmykhalov families have taken refuge in the United States embassy in Moscow, this is primarily a matter for the United States and Soviet authorities. The Government will, however, continue to press for an end to abuses of human rights in the Soviet Union, particularly with regard to freedom of movement and freedom to practise religious belief.
