HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 cc466-7W
Mr. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) whether the fissile material for use in Trident missiles will be purchased from British Nuclear Fuels Ltd., the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority or any of the electricity boards;

(2) whether the fissile material for use in Trident missiles will come from (a) the United Kingdom's existing stocks, (b) abroad, (c) will require to be separated from the spent fuel of existing British reactors or (d) will require to be separated from the spent fuel of British reactors still to be commissioned.

Mr. Pattie

Appropriate arrangements are being made for the supply of fissile material for use in the warheads of the Trident missile system. It has been the practice of successive Governments not to reveal the source of such material.
