HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 cc427-8W
21. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of complaints, in the Metropolitan Police area in particular, at the lack of police being seen on the beat and while numerous police are engaged on the work connected with private business functions, such as the Wimbledon tennis tournament, Ascot races and Test matches, whether he will ask the commissioner to cut down the use of police for private functions in favour of having police on the beat.

Mr. Raison
