HC Deb 16 July 1981 vol 8 cc443-4W
Mr. Straw

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many redundancies were notified in the Blackburn travel-to-work area in the periods June 1979 to May 1980 and June 1980 to May 1981: and, of those persons, what estimate is made of the number earning less than £80 per week at the time their redundancy was declared.

Mr. Peter Morrison

There are no comprehensive statistics of redundancies. The number of redundancies, involving 10 or more employees, reported to the Manpower Services Commission as due to occur in the Blackburn travel-to-work area between June 1979 and May 1980—inclusive—is 1,608; between June 1980 and May 1981 the number so far reported is 4,267, including provisional figures for April and May.

An estimate of the number earning less than £80 per week is not available.
