HC Deb 13 July 1981 vol 8 cc293-4W
Miss Fookes

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has yet reached a decision on the South-East Thames regional health authority's proposals for providing secure units for mentally ill patients.

Sir George Young

I have now completed my review of the South-East Thames regional health authority's scheme and have decided to approve the proposals for a central unit at the Bethlem Royal hospital and 15-bed satellite units at Cane Hill, Bexley, Oakwood and Hellingly hospitals. I have also approved the proposal of South-West Thames regional health authority to establish a 25-bed secure unit at Netheme hospital. These approvals are subject to the usual planning and building procedures.
