HC Deb 13 July 1981 vol 8 c278W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the various inquiries and reviews being conducted by the Home Office relating to issues concerned with public order, and the number of civil servants engaged upon them; and when he expects them to be completed.

Mr. Mayhew

The review of the Public Order Act 1936 and related legislation, the study of racial attacks, and the working group on protective clothing and equipment for the police are directly concerned with public order issues. The number of officials engaged upon them varies, but considerable resources are devoted to the work. Recent events have implications for all three undertakings, but my right hon. Friend intends them to be completed as soon as possible.
