HC Deb 13 July 1981 vol 8 c313W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the average salary of general practitioners in Scotland.

Mr. Fairgrieve

General medical practitioners are paid not by salary but by fees and allowances related to the services they provide to their NHS patients. The level of fees and allowances for 1981–82 is designed to provide practitioners throughout Great Britain with an average net remuneration of £17,970 after payment of practice expenses.
