HC Deb 13 July 1981 vol 8 cc281-2W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will set out the details of the road traffic accident which occurred in Park Lane on 8 July, involving an armoured Jaguar police car; and if he will state the cost of repairing the damage to each of the motor vehicles involved.

Mr. Whitelaw

I understand from the Commissioner that a collision occurred between a Metropolitan Police vehicle and a Peugeot estate car at the junction of Park Lane and Stanhope Gate W1 at 11 am on 8 July, the circumstances of which are still subject to inquiry. Both vehicles sustained damage and people in both vehicles were slightly injured. The cost of repairing the damage to the police vehicle has not yet been assessed. The Commissioner has no information about the cost of repairing the other vehicle.

Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the average cost of operating one armoured Jaguar police car, and what is the average cost of providing drivers for one armoured Jaguar police car.

Mr. Whitelaw

I shall write to the hon. and learned Member.
