HC Deb 07 July 1981 vol 8 c114W
Mr. P. Whitehead

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he will now place in the Library copies of all individual letters sent to the universities on 1 July by the Universities Grants Committee;

(2) what information he has received from the University Grants Committee on the subject areas and individual subjects which it proposes to strengthen in the years 1981 to 1984; and in which institutions concentrations of such disciplines are to be attempted.

Mr. Mark Carlisle

The University Grants Committee's approach to the allocation of grant for the years 1981–82 to 1983–84 was explained in the chairman's letter to all universities of 1 July, which was published in my right hon. and learned Friend's reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Wokingham (Sir W. van Straubenzee)

With the agreement of the vice-chancellors and principals concerned the University Grants Committee's letters to individual universities and other institutions have now been placed in the Library of the House.
