HC Deb 06 July 1981 vol 8 cc15-6W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what are his Department's population and employee

Mr. Raison

On 3 July 1981, nine Iranians were detained in a prison or remand centre in the course of deportation proceedings, eight of them following a recommendation for deportation made by a court after conviction of a criminal offence.

Each case is considered on its merits. In accordance with the convention and protocol relating to the status of refugees, an Iranian is not deported to Iran if he is unwilling to go there owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular group or political opinion.
