§ Mr. Michael Brownasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many repayments of value added tax were made to registered traders by manual means in each of the past three months; and how much value added tax was repaid in each period.
§ Mr. Peter ReesThe numbers of manual repayments made to registered traders during the months of April, May and June 1981 were 182, 138 and 435 respectively. These related to VAT returns processed through the computer before the strike but which were delayed to allow inquiries to be made. The approximate amounts involved were £5 million, £4 million and £17 million respectively.
