§ Mr. Stephen Rossasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether, in view of the proposals recently announced concerning the future of the National Freight Company, he is satisfied that the pension provision for former employees will be adequately safeguarded.
§ Mr. FowlerYes. These proposals would have no effect on the Government's support for the rail-based pensions under the provisions of the Transport Act 1980. It is the Government's firm intention that the deficiencies in the road-based part of the pension schemes should be funded at the time of the sale.
