HC Deb 02 July 1981 vol 7 cc441-2W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales further to his answer of 16 June, c. 352, how much water is exported from (a) the Severn-Trent water authority area in Wales, (b) the Welsh water authority area in Wales and (c) any other area of Wales to England; and how much is charged for each of these amounts.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The figures for 1979, the latest available, are:

  1. a. 16,650 million gallons, and
  2. b. 71,910 million gallons.

No part of Wales lies outside the areas of the Welsh and Severn-Trent water authorities.

In 1981–82, the Severn-Trent water authority's standard unit cost for raw water abstraction is 1.3412p per 1,000 gallons and the Welsh water authority's is 4.3p per 1,000 gallons. In the case of the Alwen reservoir, which accounted for an abstraction of 1,798 million gallons in 1979, special arrangements apply to reflect the use of the reservoir by both the Welsh and North West water authorities.
