HC Deb 01 July 1981 vol 7 c417W
44. Mr. McNally

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on his official visit to the A6(M) at Stockport and on his Department's priority for the start of road building there.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

My visit left me in no doubt about the problems on the A6 and the need for a bypass. In our current review of the road programme we will be considering when it might be possible to accommodate this very costly project, but I cannot anticipate our decision. I am sure that this road must be built as soon as it is realistically possible to find the resources to do so.
