§ Mr. Fosterasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish the number of extra careers officer appointments allocated to each region of the United Kingdom and for the United Kingdom as a whole.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonOn 21 November 1980 my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State announced the provision of an additional 200 posts under the Government's existing scheme to strengthen the careers service in dealing with unemployment. The posts have been allocated as follows in relation to the numbers of young people who have been 373W registered as unemployed with the careers service for six weeks or more plus those participating in the youth opportunities programme:

My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales are responsible for arrangements under the scheme in their countries. I am informed by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland that the staffing of the careers service in the Province is currently under review.
