Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the total amount of money deducted from the December salaries of teachers who took unauthorised absence from their school duties to take part in H-Block protests.

Mr. John Patten

Deductions totalling £208.34 will be made from the salaries of 61 teachers—including lecturers in institutions of further education—who absented themselves from school duties during November 1980; these deductions will be made from the salaries payable to the teachers at the end of January 1981. Deductions totalling £869.96 will be made from the salaries payable at the end of February 1981, of 111 teachers and lecturers who absented themselves in December 1980.
