Rossasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many robberies were committed in England and Wales in each of the last two years, or financial years if more convenient, to the latest available date, by persons armed with (a) handguns, (b) shotguns and (c) other firearms; and, of the persons apprehended for these crimes, how many held firearms certificates for (i) the weapons concerned and (ii) any other firearm.
§ Mr. MayhewThe information requested on firearms reported to have been used in robberies is published annually in "Criminal Statistics England and Wales" (table 3.4 of the volumes for 1979, Cmnd. 8089 and 1978, Cmnd. 7670). Information relating to 1980 is not yet available. The information requested on firearms certificates held by persons apprehended for these offences is not collected centrally.
