HC Deb 26 January 1981 vol 997 c296W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what effect he expects the slowing down of orders for naval vessels to have on the shipbuilding industry in general and in terms of employment in particular; and what yards at present building warships will no longer build naval vessels on a regular basis.

Mr. Speed

As my right hon. Friend said in the House on 20 January—[Vol. 997, c. 149–160]—an assessment of the effect on British Shipbuilders in general and on particular yards of the slowing down of some warship orders must await the outcome of detailed discussions with the British Shipbuilders.
