HC Deb 26 January 1981 vol 997 c275W
Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many prosecutions and how many convictions there were under the Indecent Advertisements Act 1889 in 1979.

Mr. Mayhew

In England and Wales in 1979, eight persons were proceeded against for offences under the Indecent Advertisements Act 1889 and seven were found guilty.

Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what the provisional figures are for prosecutions and convictions under the Indecent Advertisements Act 1889 in 1980;

(2) what the provisional figures are for prosecution and conviction under the Vagrancy Act 1824 in 1980.

Mr. Mayhew

I regret that provisional figures are not available. It is hoped that official statistics on court prosecutions in 1980 will be available in the summer.
