§ Mr. Pawseyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what co-ordination exists between the United Kingdom and other countries in research developments into diseases.
§ Sir George YoungCo-ordination in medical research between the United Kingdom and other countries is effected mainly through the United Kingdom's membership of the European Community and the World Health Organisation. The Committee on Medical Research of the European Community, on which the Department and the Medical Research Council are represented, has as its prime objective the co-ordination of medical research in member States. The World Health Organisation has regional and central research directorates. It designates certain research laboratories as collaborative centres. A number of these are in the United Kingdom.
The Health Departments and the Medical Research Council work closely together in these matters.
