HC Deb 16 January 1981 vol 996 c615W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will seek to reduce the European Community budget by, in particular, reducing the amount spent on the common agricultural policy.

Mr. Lawson

[pursuant to his reply, 15 January 1981]: The Government believe that the need for restraint in public spending applies just as much to the Community budget as to national budgets. We also believe that, within a budget constrained by the yield of its existing own resources, the Community should reduce the proportion of its expenditure accounted for by the common agricultural policy.
