HC Deb 15 January 1981 vol 996 cc571-2W
Mr. Freeson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his reply to the right hon. Member for Brent, East on 4 December, Official Report, c. 304, whether he is satisfied that the police have received and are receiving full co-operation from (a) inmates and (b) staff in their inquiries into the Wormwood Scrubs prison incident.

Mr. Mayhew

It would be wrong to comment on any aspect of the police inquiries while those are continuing.

Mr. Freeson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his reply to the right hon. Member for Brent, East on 3 December, Official Report, c. 304, what recommendations he has received from prison department officials, following the Wormwood Scrubs prison incident, other than any which may be contained in the unpublished report; and whether any action has been or will be taken as a result.

Mr. Mayhew

Successive Governments have maintained the confidentiality of exchanges between officials and Ministers. My right hon. Friend has no plans to make a statement about any matters relating to the events at Wormwood Scrubs on 31 August 1979 at this stage.
