HC Deb 15 January 1981 vol 996 cc580-1W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether in the light of his statement of 9 December 1980, he will enable pensioners to nominate a National Giro account for the receipt of their pension; and, if so, whether this option will be mentioned in forms of authority issued by his Department.

Mrs. Chalker

Under the proposals for paying social security benefits direct to bank accounts a pensioner, or mother in receipt of child benefit, would be able to have payment made to a National Girobank account if she wished. This will made clear to beneficiaries when this new method becomes available.

Mr. Carter-Jones

Member for Eccles in his question of 3 November, Official Report, c. 467, in the terms set out in that question.

I am writing to the hon. Member.
