HC Deb 15 January 1981 vol 996 c568W
Mr. Dickens

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the levels of remuneration paid to the Immigration Appeals Tribunal; how the levels of this remuneration are fixed; and if he will seek to reduce the levels of payment.

Mr. Whitelaw

The current annual salaries of the president and two vice-presidents of the Immigration Appeals Tribunal and of full-time adjudicators are as follows:

£
President 19,500
Vice-President 18,663
Chief Adjudicator 17,844
Adjudicators 15,758

Civil Service rates of London weighting are also payable as appropriate.

The remuneration is linked to that of the chairmen of industrial tribunals and is determined, with the approval of the Minister for the Civil Service, in the light of reports of the Top Salaries Review Body.

The part-time chairman and members of the Immigration Appeals Tribunal currently receive daily fees of £80 and £40 respectively, and part-time adjudicators a daily fee of £63. These rates are in accord with the fees payable in the case of other part-time judicial and tribunal appointments of a like nature.

I have no proposals to reduce these levels of remuneration.
