HC Deb 15 January 1981 vol 996 c566W
11. Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what consideration he has given in recent weeks to changing the policy under which grant-aid is paid to the Gaelic Athletic Association.

Mr. John Patten

All grant-aid schemes are subject to periodic review in the light of availability of funds. The Government have long made clear that they deplore the restrictions on membership of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Whatever change in grant-aid financial circumstances may require, it remains the Goverenment's policy that restricted membership clubs, such as the GAA, will not be grant-aided at the same tate as those with open membership.
