HC Deb 15 January 1981 vol 996 c585W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer by how much it would be necessary to increase the revenue element in the price of a bottle of wine in order to reduce the tax on beer by one penny.

Mr. Peter Rees

The revenue lost from reducing taxation by 1p on a pint of beer could be recouped by an increase of about 55p or 60p on a bottle of table wine.
