asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he intends to make his further statement on the future funding of student unions.

My right hon. and learned Friend does not consider that he can usefully add to the statements that have already been made.

34. Mr. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will now announce the figures for element for per capita student union grant that he proposes to include in the next University Grants Committee budget.

Dr. Boyson

In addition to the £44 at current prices which will be added to tuition fees, provision for the maintained sector has been reduced, and that for the University Grants Committee has been increased by about £9 per student at current prices, to compensate for the higher average student union subscription in the university sector of about £53.
