HC Deb 13 January 1981 vol 996 c523W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what were the totals of fish quotas proposed to be allocated to the United Kingdom at the EEC Council of Ministers meeting in Berlin; and what was the comparable total proposed for the United Kingdom in the most recent Council of Ministers meeting on a common fisheries policy.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

There is no comparison between 1978 and 1980 because the total allowable catches for the various species have changed.

Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the minimum requirements which the United Kingdom will seek in a common fisheries policy, and, in particular, if he will insist on an exclusive 12-mile limit for United Kingdom fishermen.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The Government's objectives for a revised common fisheries policy include an adequate zone of exclusive access and preference beyond; a substantial share of the Community's total allowable catch; and adequate control and enforcement arrangements. An acceptable conservation regime has already been agreed.
