§ Mr. Wallasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what controls exist over the extensive use of monofilament nets; and if he intends to make restrictions in certain coastal areas.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithThere are no national measures controlling the use of monofilament nets as such; however, there is one which prohibits the landing in Great Britain of salmon and migratory trout caught by gillnetting—or other specified methods—within 12-mile limits around the Scottish coast. Gill nets are often of the monofilament type. I do not at present propose to introduce any further restrictions on the use of monofilament nets.
