HC Deb 12 January 1981 vol 996 cc448-9W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if, pursuant to hits reply to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Perry Barr, on 27 November 1980, any further cases of dropped steel beams on the elevated sections of the Midland link motorways have been discovered.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

No.

Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he is satisfied with the work of his agents in respect of the maintenance and repair of the elevated sections of the Midland link motorways; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The work of our agents has been adequate.

Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has received the results of the analysis of the mortar mix samples from the elevated sections of the Midland link motorways referred to in his answer to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Perry Barr, on 27 October 1980.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I expect to have all the results from the analysis of mortar samples by the end of February 1981.

Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if the inspections of the elevated sections of the Midland link motorways included the drainage system; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the results of such inspections.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Yes; the principal inspections include the drainage systems. Some remedial works will be required, but the full extent will not be known until all the inspections have been completed, probably in the second half of this year.
