asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will now introduce legislation providing school allowances for 16 to 19-year-olds; and if he will make a statement.

Local education authorities already have powers to grant allowances in respect of pupils over compulsory school age attending schools. The Government have no plans to change those arrangements.
