HC Deb 20 February 1981 vol 999 c250W
Mr. Dudley Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list in the Official Report all those schemes in the reserve list and 1982–83 main list which are being considered for a start in 1981, showing in each case the financial provision necessary for a 1981 start.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We intend to start in 1981 the Heckington bypass. I also hope to start the following schemes but a final decision will depend on developments between now and the summer:

  • A6 Elstow bypass
  • A49 Brimfield bypass
  • A66 Troutbeck diversion
  • A590 Greenodd diversion

I shall also consider starting this year any schemes from the 1982–83 main programme which can be ready in time. These include A18 Ulceby-Grimsby, Al Catterick Junction improvements (north and south schemes) and possibly the first two sections of the M42 Bromsgrove and the A47 Uppingham bypass.

Expenditure on these schemes during 1981–82 will depend on when they start and on the rate of inflation, and will be covered by the gross provision for new trunk road construction in the Estimates for 1981–82.
