§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what recent research there is indicating the average length of time spent in a community home with education by young people sent to these establishments after the imposition of a care order in criminal proceedings.
§ Sir George YoungI am aware of no recent published research which bears directly on this problem. The Department is funding research by the Dartington social policy research unit on children in care and preliminary findings indicate that a majority of children in care as a result of an offence who are placed in community homes with education remain there for rather over a year.
