§ Mr. Adam ButlerNo conclusions about the extension of the less favoured areas can be reached until the marginal land survey has been completed throughout the United Kingdom. The survey is expected to be completed towards the end of this year, when consideration will be given to the submission to the European Community of a case for extension. It will be for the Council of Ministers to decide on the merits of the case. I must remind the hon. Member that the Government have made no commitment to provide additional funds to finance an extension of the less favoured areas.
