HC Deb 17 February 1981 vol 999 c89W
Miss Boothroyd

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many men and women are registered as unemployed in the Sandwell, Dudley travel-to-work area; what percentage of unemployment each category represents; and how many unfilled vacancies there are for each of these categories.

Mr. Peter Morrison

At 15 January there were 25,120 males and 9,568 females registered as unemployed in the Dudley and Sandwell travel-to-work area. The unemployment rates were 12.9 per cent. for males and 8.7 per cent. for females.

At 9 January the numbers of notified vacancies remaining unfilled at employment offices and at careers offices in the area were 420 and 13, respectively. Vacancies notified to employment offices are estimated to be about one-third of all vacancies in the country as a whole. Because of possible duplication the figures for employment offices and careers offices should not be added together. Vacancies are not distinguished by sex.
