§ Mr. John Home Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what procedures he uses to enforce fish quota regulations where his officials suspect that excess landings have been made.
§ Mr. YoungerThe Sea Fisheries Inspectorate and the fishery protection vessels regularly monitor fishing effort and landings with a view to deterring and detecting breaches of quota regulations. Where sufficient evidence can be obtained to justify a charge of landing in excess of quota, the facts are reported to the prosecuting authorities. In 1980, eight cases of excess landings were successfully prosecuted in the courts.
