§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Transport if, in view of the greater use of roads since tread depth legislation was last introduced in 1968 and the need for shorter safe stopping distances, he will consider introducing an amendment to the present tread depth requirement of 1.5 mm across the whole breadth of the tyre.
