HC Deb 16 February 1981 vol 999 c27W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what use has been made of seaborne transportation of plutonium from Dounreay to Workington.

Mr. Norman Lamont

As I explained in my reply of 5 March 1980 to my hon. Friend the Member for Bedford (Mr. Skeet) the Government have agreed, in the light of advice from the Health and Safety Executive on the safety aspects, to the UKAEA's proposals for moving plutonium nitrate by road and sea from Dounreay to Windscale as part of the authority's programme for the development of the prototype fast reactor. These movements have not yet commenced.
