§ Mr. John Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has made, if any, to the Irish Rugby Union with regard to its forthcoming intended tour of South Africa.
§ Mr. MonroI wrote on 6 February to the president of the Irish Rugby Football Union expressing the Government's concern over this tour in view of the likely inclusion of players and/or officials from Northern Ireland. I urged the IRFU to reconsider its decision and asked that if the tour went ahead all Northern Ireland members of the tour party should be informed of our concern over their participation.
