§ 35. Mr. Nicholas Bakerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from the National Union of Journalists about the immigration and employment of journalists from overseas.
§ Mr. RaisonThe National Union of Journalists has made representations about the interpretation of the provision in the Immigration Rules that representatives of overseas newspapers, news agencies and broadcasting organisations do not need work permits.
The union agreed in 1972 that such representatives could be admitted without work permits. Reimposong work permit controls would require amendment of the Immigration Rules; the union has been advised to pursue the matter initially with the Department of Employment, which administers the work permit scheme.
