§ Mr. Alexanderasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many cases of Friedreich's Ataxia are known in the United Kingdom.
§ Sir George Young[pursuant to his reply, 18 December 1980]: Information about the number of cases of Friedreich's Ataxia is not collected centrally. However, during 1978 in England and Wales there were estimated to be fewer than 100 spells of hospital in-patient treatment for this condition. I am now informed that the Friedreich's Ataxia Group estimates that there are about 1,000 cases in the United Kingdom.
