HC Deb 02 February 1981 vol 998 cc61-2W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the future of the textile industry in Dundee.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

The Government are doing everything they can within their international trading obligations and general economic policies to assist the industry in Dundee and in other parts of the country through the current recession.

Dundee benefits from special development area status, which enables textile and other companies located there to obtain maximum Government assistance, including regional development grants for investment projects designed to create new jobs or safeguard existing ones.
